#12 surgical blade

The #12 blade is used primarily in otolaryngology for removal of tonsils and the parotid gland. It's "sickle" shape enables precise sweeping transection of delicate tissue in tight or small, narrow wounds. In the same manner as one would cut grain with a sickle by holding the grain taught, so must the tissue to be cut with the #12 blade be held taught.
